Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 September 2026

PurePrep is a minimalist, offline-first recipe app. We built it to be quiet: no accounts, no advertising, and no tracking. This policy explains the small amount of data the app handles and why.

Who we are

PurePrep ("the app", "we", "us") is developed by adziusmaster. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at andrzej@lechdigital.nl.

No account required

PurePrep does not ask you to sign up, log in, or provide a name, email address, or password. We do not know who you are, and we do not build a profile of you.

Data stored on your device

The recipes you save — their titles, ingredients, steps, and any photo attached to them — are stored locally on your device in a private database and file storage. This data never leaves your phone except in the specific cases described below. Uninstalling the app removes this data.

Anonymous device identifier

The first time you open the app, PurePrep generates a random identifier (a GUID) and stores it securely on your device. This identifier is not linked to your identity, your Google account, or any advertising ID. It is used only to keep track of your available Smart Credits on our server, so that your balance is remembered between sessions.

Importing a recipe (AI Smart Parser)

PurePrep can import a recipe in three ways. Each one only happens when you tap Import, and each sends your anonymous device identifier along with it, so our backend can check and deduct your Smart Credits.

Gemini returns a clean title, ingredient list, and steps. The recipe is returned to your device and saved there. Our server keeps no copy of the page, photo, text, or recipe. For link imports, your phone downloads the recipe's photo directly from that website, so that site can see the request, as it would if you opened the page yourself.

Recipe photos made by AI

If a recipe has no usable photo, the app can ask for one to be generated. It sends the recipe's title and ingredient list (plus your anonymous device identifier and a one-time code from the import) to our backend, which asks Google's Gemini API to create a picture of the dish. The picture comes back to your phone and is stored there with the recipe. Our server does not keep it. This is included in the import, so no extra Smart Credit is used.

Translating a recipe

When you choose to translate a recipe, the app sends the recipe's title, ingredients, steps, and timer names, plus the language you picked and your anonymous device identifier, to our backend. It passes the text to Google's Gemini API and sends the translation back to your phone, where it is saved with the recipe. Your personal notes on a recipe are never sent. The recipe text is not saved on our server.

We do not sell any of this data, and we do not use it for advertising. Google's handling of these requests is governed by the Google Gemini API terms and Google Privacy Policy. If you prefer not to send any data off your device, you can add and edit recipes by hand instead.

Clipboard

When you return to PurePrep after copying something new, the app checks the clipboard on your phone for a recipe link, so it can offer to import it. This check happens only on your device. Nothing from your clipboard is sent anywhere unless you tap to import that link, which then works like any other link import above.

Voice commands and read-aloud

In cooking mode you can turn on the microphone to move between steps by voice. Your speech is handled by your phone's own speech recognition service (for example, Google's speech services on most Android phones), under that service's privacy terms. PurePrep only uses the command words it gets back, on your device. It does not record audio and never sends audio to our server. Reading steps aloud uses your phone's built-in text-to-speech.

Searching for recipes on the web

The in-app "Search the web" feature opens an embedded browser that loads Google Search and, when you follow a result, the third-party recipe site itself — directly inside the app. These pages run with their own cookies, trackers, and consent prompts, exactly as they would in your regular browser; PurePrep does not add tracking of its own and does not send anything you browse to our backend. No Smart Credit is used just for browsing — only tapping "Add to PurePrep" on a recognised recipe page starts an import.

Joining the waitlist

If you ask to join the open-beta waitlist on our website, we store the email address you submit so we can email you once when the beta opens. We do not use it for anything else, we do not share it, and you can ask us to remove it at any time at andrzej@lechdigital.nl.

Purchases (Smart Credits)

Smart Credits let you import and translate more recipes. Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing — we never see or store your payment card details. To add the credits you bought to your balance, the app sends your Google Play purchase token and your anonymous device identifier to our backend, which verifies the purchase with Google. Google's processing of your payment is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

What we do not do

Data retention

Your recipes remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. On our server we retain only your anonymous device identifier and its Smart Credit balance and purchase records, and any waitlist email you submitted, for as long as needed to provide the service and to comply with our obligations (for example, handling refunds or fraud). To spot abuse, we also keep a short log of each import: the website it came from (or just "photo" or "text"), whether it worked, and when. It is tied to a scrambled token rather than your device identifier, and we delete it after 30 days. To limit free Smart Credits per network, we also store a scrambled (salted, one-way) form of the IP address a device first connected from, and the same for waitlist sign-ups; we never store the raw IP address.

Children

PurePrep is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal information that identifies you, we cannot look you up by name or email. You can remove all locally stored data at any time by deleting recipes or uninstalling the app. For questions about the anonymous data tied to your device identifier, contact us at andrzej@lechdigital.nl.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

Summary:

No accounts. Recipes and their photos stay on your device. When you import a recipe (from a link, a photo you pick, or pasted text), translate one, or get an AI photo for one, the content is sent through our server to Google's Gemini API and the result comes back to your phone. Our server keeps no copy. The clipboard is checked only on your phone, and only a link you choose to import leaves it. In-app recipe search loads Google and other sites inside the app, with their own cookies and consent. Purchases go through Google Play. No ads, no tracking of our own.
